FAQs
-
How does a solar energy system work?
A solar system converts sunlight into electricity using photovoltaic (PV) panels, which can power your home and reduce reliance on the grid.
-
How long does it take to break even on the investment?
The typical payback period is 6–10 years, depending on electricity rates, system size, and available incentives.
-
Is my home a good fit for solar?
Homes with unshaded, south-facing roofs tend to be ideal, but every home should be assessed individually for feasibility. Let our experts review and walk you through the optimal solution for YOUR home.
-
Will solar panels damage my roof?
No! When installed by professionals, panels can actually protect the roof beneath and extend its life.
-
Are there tax credits or incentives?
Yes! Many homeowners qualify for the federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC), plus possible state or utility rebates.
-
What happens on very cloudy days or at night?
Your system will produce less or no power, but you’ll still have electricity from the grid or a battery backup if installed.
-
What warranties are included?
Systems typically come with 20–25 year panel warranties, plus warranties for inverters, workmanship, and performance guarantees.
-
Can I add batteries for backup power?
Yes! battery storage allows you to use solar energy at night or during outages.
-
Can I monitor my system’s performance?
Yes! most systems come with a mobile app or web portal to track energy production and usage in real-time.
-
What is net metering?
It’s a billing arrangement that credits you for excess electricity your system sends back to the grid.
-
Can I use my solar system to charge my electric vehicle (EV)?
Yes! Charging your EV with solar energy is one of the best ways to maximize your savings and reduce your carbon footprint. You can use the electricity your panels generate during the day to charge your EV directly, or store it in a battery for use at night. Some homeowners also install a Level 2 EV charger that integrates with their solar system for faster, smarter charging.
-
Can I install solar panels if I live in an HOA community?
Yes. In most cases, and in 100% of our experience, you can. There are laws that limit homeowners’ associations (HOAs) from prohibiting solar installations. While your HOA may have guidelines on placement or aesthetics, they generally cannot prevent you from going solar. It’s a good idea to review your HOA’s rules and notify them early in the process to ensure a smooth approval. We will guide the conversation and help everyone find a solution!
